autoEQ: The Taming of the Amarok Equalizer

Are you tired of manual enabling, disabling, and reconfiguring the Amarok equalizer? I used to be… until I developed a nice Amarok script to do the work for me. Meet autoEQ, a program that monitors what tracks you listen to and automatically selects equalizer presets according to your own rules.

autoEQ can be configured to match track titles, artists, albums, genres, or even comments, and to select appropriate equalizer presets. For instance, the following rule tells autoEQ to select a preset named “Nightwish Low Bass” when I start playing a track by Nightwish with a title that starts with “Escapist”:

Nightwish Low Bass
artist:^Nightwish$
title:^Escapist

Regular expressions are used to match the specific parameters, so the possibilities are virtually unlimited.

autoEQ at work

I’ve decided to create a dedicated web site for the handful of my open source projects. Head over to projects.vitasmid.com/autoEQ if you are interested in autoEQ.
