Everybody Panic! Nuclear Apocalypse Is Coming!
Exploding reactors, radioactive smoke, heroes averting the nuclear catastrophe, the next Chernobyl, millions in danger, nuclear meltdowns… These days, I am suffering not from radiation sickness, but from media sickness. I originally wanted to write a lengthy article discussing all the disgusting bullshit that mass media are producing about the situation in Fukushima, Japan. But then I realized I’d be wasting days of my time doing something that others have done much better. So, I’ve got three brief tips for you.
- Don’t read nuclear reports in mass media. If you have to, read the BBC. The bullshit index™ is the lowest there.
- Read “Why I am not worried about Japan’s nuclear reactors”, a good introduction on the problem written by a scientist but very accessible to the layman.
- For updates, follow this high quality blog written by the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT.
